Yeah it appears there is still negative comments about being an SEO.
It is just a matter of time, people said negative things about email marketing
in the begining also. It is still used and effective.
Funny thing is that it is the Ad agencies who spead alot of the negative Karma
it will come back to bite them in the butt.
One of the big problems I find is the people who want to pick your brain and try to do everything themselves. It is tough sometimes to educate the client fully

My own Top Ten reasons it sux to be an SEO:
10. There is no upper limit to the organic traffic levels - time to buy yet another server!
9. Every site has a monetization objective - there is no “personal” blog!
8. Those talking head SEOs who blogblogblog instead of working make people think real SEOs should have blogs. Not!
7. Everyone else’s failed idea is a clear an opportunity! Shut up!
6. I am associated with people who have to blog profanities to get attention
5. People think you are the one ruining their SERPs, instead of thinking you are the one making the SERP useful
4. I can see impending doom.
3. Really, really, really big log files
2. I’m the guy testing the service vendor’s scalability. And usually the only one.
1. I get so much traffic people think it’s black magic and are afraid of me.

Hurr hurr…web hosts.
There are a couple of gems, but the hosting industry in general has as bad - if not worse - reputation than the SEO industry.
Anyone can do it, and look - you can do it really cheap!!
