Ian Turner has been missing. Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. If you are in Atlanta or New Orleans and can help to scour the city I would urge you to contact one of the folks helping to track him down. Picture of Ian.
If you’ve seen Ian, or have any information about him that might be useful (anything at all, at this stage) please contact the New Orleans or Atlanta police department.
New Orleans P.D. - (504) 821-2222
Atlanta P.D. - (404) 730-5700 (Fulton County)

Or contact Ali, his wife via Sticky Mail at WMW
So in Jim’s session at the conference, someone asked in the Q and A about what type of subject to use for a link request, and I realized what an art form link requests have really become. It’s TOUGH to get folks to give you links, especially with the volume of sheer CRAP that is out there now. The post previous to this one was examples of some of the garbage that I got in the last few days.
Maybe I’ll do a few more of these if I get some good feedback. I think there are lots of ways to approach a link request more politely and effectively than with an e-mail list of sites at the top of the serps and a form letter. While it’s fairly on topic - I’ve also been meaning to mention the linking blog all about all things links including text links, authority links, reciprocal links, buying links, and much more. I was fortunate to get to hang out with Patrick, Jay, Brock, and Andy from Text-link-ads (Buy Text Links) in N’awleans. Thought I’d throw this out there for those who haven’t visited the blog yet. Andy is their newest recruit, and they lucked out with such a nice addition to their team. Andy really knows his stuff, and I’m sure their site will turn into more and more of a linking advice goldmine.
Successful Link Request Dialogue 1
Subject: Question about Underwaterbasketweaving.com
Dear (actual name of webmaster that you had to hunt a bit for),
I came across your site about underwater basketweaving and thought it was quite cool that you gave examples and diagrams of weaving a picnic basket in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. I did however notice a typo on http://www.underwaterbasketweaving.com/atlantic.htm where you say “there are many waayys to weeave a basket”. Probably just got overlooked, but I thought I’d let you know, as it’s always useful to me when webmasters or readers point things out that I hadn’t noticed on my sites.

I get bad link requests all the time. I’m sure you do as well. The below is only a few days worth Don’t be a e-mail link request spammer. My next post will be an example of a good dialogue.

Compiled List of Internet Marketing and SEO Tools by Mr. Ploppy
We Build Pageshas some great SEO tools as well.

This is the story of the one named Mr. Ploppy
Mr. Ploppy was the creation of a WMW member (if it was you, please let me know so I can credit you properly). It was a kinda causeless casual comical contextual comment of a member chidin’ a newb who was confused…curious questiong of the 70th sandbox question for the week…this is shortly past the time of what I like to call the “age filter realization period” . It was un-necessary and juvenile comment, and it went something like this:
Google command to see if you’re out of the sandbox:
mrploppy sez : www.yoursite.com *
When other people chimed into the thread with other unnecessary rude jabber, it got axed, never to be seen again.
Edited. Done. Funny. Chuckle. You’re right, it really doesn’t take much to get a laugh out of an internet marketer on a Thursday afternoon when they’ve worked 50 hours already for the week, and had donethings like search for PDF conversion software for hours on end
An Adwords campaign taught me that Google doesn’t like inside jokes. I had just wanted to get the attention of mods, and see how many impressions it’d get, and see if I could get another cheap chuckle. Gotta love them nickle clicks. heh.
If you’re considering a degree in online marketing, I recommend Rasmussen University Online, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
It turned into a tool list. Ploppy - friend, alter-alter-ego (stuntdubl being alter-ego uno) or fearless sandbox crusader…not sure which one categorizes ploppy best, but he now serves his purpose of being a juvenile shameless publicity stunt. I was thinking today about how to add link boy and marketing man into his cast of characters to mooch more optimal anchor text links. I wish I could do animation. Tools are fun. If only I could create a super villian to make life more interesting (any suggestions?). Thank you for witnessing my delusional late-night foray into nonsenseland. I think it could be from extended periods of exposure to conflicting SEO BS.
The first word that comes to mind - Wow. It is really amazing to me how in depth and far reaching the world of search has become. The webmasterworld conference in N’awleans was a reminder of just how lucky I feel to be a part of an industry that is so fun and rewarding. There was so many great people and so much information bouncing around that I’m not even sure where to start with my first post back in action here. It took a full day just to recover from being physically and mentally overwhelmed from the conference. Now it’s time to sit back, review notes, and see which ideas stuck. It was my first time speaking at an event, and I was quite excited. Please check out the presentation from the linking on a dime session, and feel free to drop me a line about it or let me know if you attended and have any feedback for me.

Headed off to the Webmaster World Search Conference in New Orleans for the week. If you’ll be there, be sure to stop by the booth and say hey, or stop in and watch Jim, Jenn, or I speaking on our given topics.
This is assuming you can squeeze this into your schedule of watching all of the other fantastic speakers’ presentations.
