Mr. Ploppy’s Monday Morning Tool List Volume XI – RSS Tools
Online marketing information can change quickly This article is 18 years and 300 days old, and the facts and opinions contained in it may be out of date.
Firstly, I have to apologize for last week. I’m not really a blackhat SEO, just got caught in a weak moment of curiousity. This week, I’m takin’ a look at RSS – which has several great uses from general information dissemination to web development and search engine optimization. RSS has become an increasingly important part of how folks who are bombarded with information everyday communicate more effectively. I can read the updates to several dozen of my favorite blogs and forums through an RSS reader in much less time than it would take to visit all those places individually. Until quite recently RSS has been ad-free, though it threatens to be pimped like the rest of the web with the new addition of Google Adsense for RSS. I’m not really all that worried about it, since as citizens of this grand “lambaste you with advertising” country we are quite adept at ignoring unwanted solicitations. It’s probably a good thing to have another way for publishers to draw compensation as well. I can’t imagine it is going to have a great ROI for advertisers, but I guess ya never know until you try.
With the standards implemented for this format, it is much easier to add dynamic content to your site in order to keep it fresh. With the tools mentioned below, you will be able to add RSS feeds to your site for your users benefit, as well as to keep your page changing so it gets spidered often. Real sophisticated folks are even parsing RSS feeds together and spitting out their own RSS, or using it to create podcasts of internet radio shows or other audio recordings. It’s simple – check out what you can do with RSS.
